- Key fact: On 1 October 2026 OpenAI's pricing page listed a ChatGPT Business standard seat at £15 a month billed annually or £18 billed monthly, for teams of 2 to 200, and Plus at £20 a month. Five Business seats for a year cost £900 on annual billing (5 × £15 × 12); the page does not mention VAT, and its UK price data marks Business prices as before tax, which would make that £1,080 with 20% VAT.

ChatGPT costs a small UK firm £15 a seat a month on the Business plan billed annually, or £18 billed monthly, on OpenAI's pricing page as read on 1 October 2026. Five people for a year cost £900 on annual billing (5 × £15 × 12), or £1,080 once 20% VAT is added; one person pays £240 a year for Plus, and ten people cost £1,800 before VAT.

The page shows pounds to a UK visitor. It does not mention VAT anywhere, which matters more than it sounds, so there is a section on that below.

## The plans on the page today

| Plan | Price on the page | Who can buy it | Billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | £0 | One person | None |
| Go | £7 a month | One person | Monthly |
| Plus | £20 a month | One person | Monthly |
| Pro | From £89 a month | One person | Monthly |
| Business, standard seat | £15 a seat a month billed annually; £18 billed monthly | Teams of 2 to 200 | Monthly or annual |
| Business, premium seat | £75 a seat a month billed annually; £90 billed monthly | The same team; seat types can be mixed | Monthly or annual |
| Enterprise | Not published; the page says to contact sales | Larger organisations | Annual |

Three notes on the table.

- **Go may carry adverts.** The plan card says so.
- **Pro has three usage tiers.** The card shows only the starting price of £89. The price data the page loads lists three monthly amounts, £89, £200 and £445, without saying on the page which tier is which.
- **Enterprise has no price.** The page offers pricing by credits or by tokens for that plan and gives no figure.

The page's own questions section says annual plans are offered only for Business and Enterprise. A firm that wants the annual saving therefore has to be on Business.

## Seat minimums

Business starts at two users, and the plan card describes it as for teams of 2 to 200 employees. A one-person firm cannot buy one Business seat. Its choices are Plus, Pro, or a two-seat Business plan with one seat spare.

## Monthly against annual billing

Only Business gives the choice. A standard seat is £15 a month on annual billing against £18 on monthly, a gap of £3 a seat a month. For five seats that is £180 a year (£1,080 less £900). For ten it is £360.

A premium seat, which the page says has five times the usage of a standard one, is £75 against £90.

## What the page says about VAT

Nothing. Neither tab of the pricing page mentions VAT or tax.

The UK price data that the page loads does carry a tax flag for each plan. It marks the three paid plans for individuals as tax inclusive and Business as tax exclusive, with a rate of 20%. That agrees with GOV.UK, which gives 20% as the standard rate of VAT. Read that way:

- Plus at £20 a month already includes VAT. Before VAT it is £16.67.
- A Business standard seat at £15 becomes £18 with VAT (£15 × 1.2), and at £18 it becomes £21.60.

This is our reading of a data file, not a statement OpenAI makes to buyers, and we did not reach a checkout. Treat the with-VAT figures below as likely, and confirm them on the order screen before you pay.

## Worked yearly cost for one, five and ten people

| Firm | Plan | Sum | A year, as priced on the page | With 20% VAT added to Business |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One person | Go | 12 × £7 | £84 | £84 |
| One person | Plus | 12 × £20 | £240 | £240 |
| One person | Pro, lowest tier | 12 × £89 | £1,068 | £1,068 |
| One person who wants the Business terms | Business, two seats, annual | 2 × £15 × 12 | £360 | £432 |
| Five people | Business, annual | 5 × £15 × 12 | £900 | £1,080 |
| Five people | Business, monthly | 5 × £18 × 12 | £1,080 | £1,296 |
| Ten people | Business, annual | 10 × £15 × 12 | £1,800 | £2,160 |
| Ten people | Business, monthly | 10 × £18 × 12 | £2,160 | £2,592 |
| Ten people, two on premium seats | Business, annual | 8 × £15 × 12 + 2 × £75 × 12 | £3,240 | £3,888 |

In the last row the eight standard seats come to £1,440 and the two premium seats to £1,800.

## What the seat price does not cover

The page describes everyday chats on paid plans as unlimited, subject to what it calls abuse guardrails, and marks the more capable models on Business as flexible. A footnote says Business and Enterprise customers can buy credits for more access. The page gives no price for those credits and we have not used them, so a heavy user may cost more than the table shows. Our guide to [usage limits on paid plans](https://aeolookup.com/ai-for-small-firms/ai-assistant-usage-limits-chatgpt-claude-copilot-gemini-paid-plans/) has the numbers OpenAI publishes.

## Plus or Business for a one-person firm

Two Business seats on annual billing cost £432 a year with VAT, against £240 for Plus. The extra £192 buys a different contract.

- **Plus is a plan for individuals.** OpenAI's help page says content from its services for individuals may be used to train its models. The user can switch that off under Settings, then Data controls.
- **Business is not trained on by default.** The same page says inputs and outputs from ChatGPT Business are not used to improve models unless the firm opts in.
- **Only Business has a data processing agreement.** OpenAI's business privacy page, dated 8 January 2026, says it will sign one for Business, Enterprise and API customers, on request through a form. Plus is not on that list.
- **Feedback is the exception on both.** A conversation rated with the thumbs-up or thumbs-down button may be used for training, even after opting out.

A firm that puts customers' personal data into the tool should have that agreement. Our guides for [tradespeople](https://aeolookup.com/trades/can-i-use-chatgpt-for-quotes-invoices-customer-emails-tradesperson/), [letting agents](https://aeolookup.com/letting-agents/chatgpt-for-letting-agents-prices-data-terms-prompts/) and [restaurants and pubs](https://aeolookup.com/hospitality/chatgpt-for-restaurants-pubs-menus-review-replies-rotas/) show what to keep out of a prompt on either plan.

Business also adds an admin layer, with SAML single sign-on, central billing and spend controls. The privacy page says workspace admins can read and delete members' conversations and set how long data is kept. SCIM and role-based access are listed under Enterprise.

## How the price sits beside the others

ChatGPT Business is level with Claude Team on annual billing, at £900 before VAT for five seats, and £45 a year cheaper on monthly billing (£1,080 against £1,125). It is dearer a seat than Google Workspace with Gemini or the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on, though each of those is tied to a wider subscription. The four are set side by side in our [comparison of the business plans](https://aeolookup.com/ai-for-small-firms/chatgpt-vs-claude-vs-copilot-vs-gemini-small-uk-firm-business-plans-compared/), and the same treatment for Anthropic is in [what Claude costs](https://aeolookup.com/ai-for-small-firms/how-much-does-claude-cost-small-business-uk/).

Overlyft ![](https://aeolookup.com/img/d/ours-badge.png) is an AI agency that sets up AI office assistants for ten trades, set up in the firm's own office for a fixed price agreed after an audit, where the firm pays Anthropic directly for its own Claude plan and a person approves anything that goes to a customer; they run on Claude, not ChatGPT, so we have an interest, and the prices on this page are OpenAI's own.
