Best AI office assistants for UK trades firms in 2026
Five AI tools for a trades office, scored on the jobs each covers, set-up, approval, support, a price you can read and track record.

Most AI tools sold to trades firms answer the phone. That helps, but the phone is only part of the office. The quote that never got written, the invoice nobody chased and the CIS return due on the 19th cost a firm more than a missed call.
We scored five tools on what their own pages say, read on 1 October 2026. Overlyft's done-for-you set-up comes first on our scoring: it is set up for you inside the systems you already use, it covers all six of these jobs in one installation, and a person approves what goes out. It is new and has no independent customer reviews yet, so weigh that against the tools with a track record.

1. Top pick: widest office coverage, set up for you
Overlyft: done-for-you set-up
Overlyft sets up a small team of AI staff rather than one tool. A Call Handler answers the calls you cannot take, books a visit from the free slots and texts you a note of each; a Front Desk replies to email and website enquiries; a Quote Writer turns your site notes into a quote and follows it up on day 3 and day 7; a Credit Controller chases unpaid invoices; a Paperwork Clerk keeps CIS dates, certificates and renewals in order; a Scheduler builds next week from booked jobs. Anything written to a customer waits for your yes until you tell it otherwise. The service is new, with no independent reviews.
Pros
- Covers all six office jobs, from the phone to the CIS return
- Fixed prices published on the agency site; monthly care afterwards is optional
- Asks you before it sends anything written to a customer
- Set up in your firm for you, using the software you already have
Cons
- New service: no independent customer reviews yet
- The upfront build is the highest starting cost here
- Phone answering runs on a voice service you pay for directly, as with the Claude plan
- You also pay Anthropic for a Claude business plan, plus any extra a busy staff member uses
- How it connects depends on your job software; this is checked in the audit

3. Best with nothing to pay upfront
Tradehand
Tradehand answers calls and says it also quotes, books jobs and chases invoices, which puts it closest to Overlyft's set-up on coverage. You pay nothing upfront and nothing monthly: it takes 5% of the invoice payments it collects. That is cheap while you are small and adds up as you grow: on £100,000 of invoices collected through it, the fee is £5,000 a year.
Pros
- Answers the phone as well as quoting and chasing
- No upfront or monthly cost
- Built for UK trades
Cons
- 5% of collected invoices grows with your turnover
- Paperwork and CIS reminders not stated on the page we read

How we ranked them
What counted: office jobs covered out of six (calls, email and web enquiries, quotes, invoice chasing, paperwork and CIS dates, job booking and scheduling), up to 1.5 points: a quarter point each, an eighth for part of a job; set up for you inside the firm's existing tools (done for you 1.5, guided onboarding 0.75, self-serve or not stated 0), up to 1.5; a stated step where a person approves (here, you) what the AI produces, within the sector's regulated limits, up to 0.5; ongoing support stated (monitoring, named support or a service level), up to 0.5; a UK price you can read without a sales call, up to 0.5; independent track record (reviews with a count), up to 0.5.
We read each product's own pricing and product pages on 1 October 2026 and recorded what each one says it does. Where a page did not mention a job, the table says "not stated" rather than guessing.
We have not run trials of these products, so this ranks what each tool covers and costs, not how well it does it on a live job. If you are choosing between two of them, use their free trials or money-back periods before you commit.
Each product's score is the sum of the six marks shown under its entry, rounded to one decimal place, and every product is marked the same way from what its entry records. Jobs: a quarter point for each of the six jobs its pages say it does, with AI or with ordinary software, and an eighth for part of a job; a job that needs a separate product, or a feature marked coming soon, does not count. Set-up: 1.5 where the supplier sets it up for you, 0.75 where it offers onboarding, training or migration help, 0 where it is self-serve or does not say. Approval: 0.5 where the pages state a step where a person approves what the AI produces, 0 otherwise. Support: 0.5 where ongoing support such as monitoring, named support or a service level is stated. Price: 0.5 for a full price in pounds on its own pages; 0.25 for a starting price, part of a price, a price in another currency or one found only on a directory. Track record: 0.5 for independent reviews with a count; 0.25 for a rating shown only on the company's own site, or customer numbers or named customers the company states itself.
Track record counts for up to 0.5 because these reviews compare what each product does for a small firm, not how big the vendor is. A tool with thousands of reviews still has to cover the jobs to score well, and a new service with none loses that half point.
Overlyft's done-for-you set-up is the most expensive of the five to start. If missed calls are your only problem, one of the phone tools will cost less.
Questions people ask
Can an AI assistant answer the phone for a trades firm?
Yes. All five tools here answer calls. Overlyft's set-up answers the calls you cannot take and texts you a note of each, alongside enquiries, quotes, invoice chasing, paperwork and scheduling; of the others, only Tradehand also states quotes and invoice chasing.
What does an AI receptionist cost in the UK?
On the pages we read, from £45 a month plus £299 set-up (Down To Earth AI) to £99 a month for 150 minutes (ARROW). Tradehand charges 5% of the invoices it collects instead of a monthly fee.
Will it contact my customers without me knowing?
That depends on the tool, so ask before you buy. Overlyft's set-up waits for your yes before anything goes to a customer until you choose to relax that.
