Best AI tools for small UK online shops in 2026
Six AI tools for a small UK online shop, scored on the jobs each covers, set-up, approval, support, a price you can read and track record.

An online shop has more AI tools aimed at it than any other small business, and almost all of them do one thing. A helpdesk answers where-is-my-order. A forecasting app tells you what to reorder. Shopify writes your product descriptions. No other product we read covered more than three of the six office jobs a small shop has, and none of them drafts replies to customer reviews.
We scored six tools on what their own pages say, read on 1 October 2026. Overlyft's done-for-you set-up comes first on our scoring: it is set up for you inside the systems you already use, it covers all six of these jobs in one installation, and a person approves what goes out. It is new and has no independent customer reviews yet, so weigh that against the tools with a track record.

1. Top pick: widest coverage, on any platform, set up for you
Overlyft: done-for-you set-up
Overlyft sets up a small team of AI staff inside the shop: a Customer Service Assistant reads messages from your inbox and marketplace message centres, drafts the reply with the order and tracking looked up and issues returns labels within your policy; a Listings Writer drafts titles, descriptions and tags for each channel from your photos and notes; a Stock Clerk recalculates reorder points each Monday and drafts the purchase order; a Reviews Clerk drafts replies to new reviews; a Disputes Clerk gathers the evidence for each chargeback and drafts the response before the deadline. A person approves what goes out. The service is new, with no independent reviews, and it costs far more to start than a $29 app.
Pros
- Covers all six shop jobs, including review replies and chargeback evidence
- Not tied to Shopify: works across Etsy, eBay and your own site
- A person approves replies before they are sent
Cons
- New service: no independent customer reviews yet
- The upfront build costs far more than any app here, and you also pay Anthropic for a Claude plan
- No customer-facing returns portal: returns are handled by reply and label

2. Best for sellers on eBay and Amazon as well
eDesk
eDesk pulls messages from eBay, Amazon, Shopify, WooCommerce and others into one inbox alongside the order details. It is the only tool here that names eBay as a built-in channel, and the only one that says clearly you can choose: the AI suggests a reply for a person to send, or you switch on auto reply. It has offices in London and Derry. Its prices differ between its own pricing page and its Shopify listing, so get the figure in writing. The App Store shows 32 reviews, far fewer than the others.
Pros
- eBay and Amazon messages in the same inbox
- You choose between suggested replies and automatic ones
- UK offices
Cons
- Per-user pricing plus a charge per AI outcome
- Its own pages disagree on the price
- Only 32 App Store reviews

3. Best for knowing what to reorder
Prediko
Prediko does the one job the helpdesks ignore. It forecasts demand from your Shopify sales, recommends what to restock and when, and builds purchase orders, with an AI agent to ask questions of. It is based in London and has 254 App Store reviews at 4.9. It needs a Shopify store, so it will not help a shop that sells only on Etsy or eBay, and the price rises with your revenue, not your usage. The pages describe recommendations; they do not say an order goes to a supplier without you.
Pros
- Forecasts, reorder alerts and purchase orders
- London company, 254 App Store reviews
- Price is set by revenue band, so small shops pay least
Cons
- Shopify only
- Does one job
- Dollar pricing through Shopify billing
| Price | $49 a month for shops with up to $100,000 of revenue, $119 up to $500,000, $199 up to $2 million |
|---|---|
| Best for | Shopify shops that run out of best-sellers or sit on slow stock |

4. Best if you want to spend nothing more
Shopify Inbox, Sidekick and Magic
Shopify's own tools are the only ones here priced in pounds and the only ones that cost nothing extra. Magic writes product descriptions. Sidekick answers questions about your shop and helps with admin tasks. The Inbox agent chats with visitors on your storefront about products, delivery, returns and sizing, learning from your catalogue and policies. It is chat only: it does not answer email or look up an order, and once switched on it replies without asking you. Nothing here helps a seller on Etsy, eBay or WooCommerce.
Pros
- No extra cost on any Shopify plan
- Writes product listings, which no helpdesk here does
- 5,790 reviews of Inbox on the App Store, at 4.5
Cons
- Shopify only
- Storefront chat, not email or order lookups
- Usage limits vary by plan and are not published
| Price | Included with a Shopify plan: Basic is £19 a month paid yearly or £25 paid monthly |
|---|---|
| Best for | Shops already on Shopify that have not yet tried what is built in |
| Set-up | Self-serve, inside the Shopify admin |

5. Best helpdesk for a Shopify shop that has outgrown its inbox
Gorgias
Gorgias puts email, chat, Instagram, WhatsApp and text in one inbox, and its AI Agent answers order status, shipping and delivery questions and works through return, exchange and refund requests against your rules. You set how confident it must be before it answers alone. The cost has two parts that add up: a conversation the AI resolves carries the AI fee and also uses a ticket from your plan. It has 706 reviews on the Shopify App Store at 4.3. We found no UK office and no pound pricing.
Pros
- Answers order and delivery questions and handles return requests
- Every channel in one inbox
- 706 Shopify App Store reviews
Cons
- Each AI-resolved conversation is charged twice: the AI fee and a plan ticket
- No approval step before the AI replies; it escalates what it is unsure of
- Dollar pricing, no UK presence stated
| Price | From $10 a month for 50 tickets; Basic $60 a month, or $50 billed annually, for 300. The AI Agent is about $1 for each conversation it resolves, on top |
|---|---|
| Best for | Shopify shops with a few hundred customer messages a month |
| Set-up | Self-serve |
| Jobs covered (2 of 6) | 0.5 of 1.5 |
|---|---|
| Set up for you | 0 of 1.5 |

6. Best for a small shop starting with chat
Tidio with Lyro
Tidio is live chat and a shared inbox for chat, email, Instagram and WhatsApp, with an AI agent called Lyro that answers from your own content: delivery, returns, product details. Lyro can also issue refunds and edit orders in Shopify on rules you set. It replies on its own, with handover rules for the conversations you want to take yourself. Tidio's own pages give two different figures for how many AI conversations the entry price buys, so check before you work out a cost per conversation. It has 1,348 App Store reviews at 4.8.
Pros
- A free plan to start on
- AI answers from your own policies and product pages
- 1,348 Shopify App Store reviews
Cons
- The AI agent is a separate monthly charge
- No approval step before Lyro replies
- Dollar pricing, no UK presence stated
| Price | Free plan; Starter $29 a month. The Lyro AI agent is a separate add-on from $39 a month |
|---|---|
| Best for | Shops with light volume that want chat and email in one place cheaply |

How we ranked them
What counted: shop jobs covered out of six (customer emails, returns, stock reordering, listings, review replies, chargeback evidence), up to 1.5 points: a quarter point each, an eighth for part of a job; set up for you inside the shop's existing tools (done for you 1.5, guided onboarding 0.75, self-serve or not stated 0), up to 1.5; a stated step where a person approves what the AI produces, within the sector's regulated limits, up to 0.5; ongoing support stated (monitoring, named support or a service level), up to 0.5; a UK price you can read without a sales call, up to 0.5; independent track record (reviews with a count), up to 0.5.
We read each product's own product and pricing pages, and its Shopify App Store listing where it has one, on 1 October 2026. Where a page did not mention a job, the table says "not stated"; that is an absence of a statement, not proof the tool cannot do it.
Most of these tools price in US dollars and charge for each conversation the AI handles on top of the plan. We quote prices in the currency shown and do not convert them. We have not run trials of these products.
Each product's score is the sum of the six marks shown under its entry, rounded to one decimal place, and every product is marked the same way from what its entry records. Jobs: a quarter point for each of the six jobs its pages say it does, with AI or with ordinary software, and an eighth for part of a job; a job that needs a separate product, or a feature marked coming soon, does not count. Set-up: 1.5 where the supplier sets it up for you, 0.75 where it offers onboarding, training or migration help, 0 where it is self-serve or does not say. Approval: 0.5 where the pages state a step where a person approves what the AI produces, 0 otherwise. Support: 0.5 where ongoing support such as monitoring, named support or a service level is stated. Price: 0.5 for a full price in pounds on its own pages; 0.25 for a starting price, part of a price, a price in another currency or one found only on a directory. Track record: 0.5 for independent reviews with a count; 0.25 for a rating shown only on the company's own site, or customer numbers or named customers the company states itself.
Track record counts for up to 0.5 because these reviews compare what each product does for a small firm, not how big the vendor is. A tool with thousands of reviews still has to cover the jobs to score well, and a new service with none loses that half point.
Two single-job tools, ReturnGO for returns and Chargeflow for chargebacks, are covered in the questions below.
Questions people ask
What is the best AI tool for a small online shop?
It depends on the job and the platform. On the pages we read on 1 October 2026: for customer messages, Gorgias or Tidio on Shopify and eDesk if you also sell on eBay or Amazon; for listings, Shopify's own Magic; for reordering, Prediko. No tool covered more than three of the six jobs.
How much does AI customer service cost for a small shop?
Plans start low and the AI is charged on top. Gorgias starts at $10 a month and charges about $1 for each conversation its AI resolves. Tidio's Lyro add-on starts at $39 a month. eDesk charges $0.99 per AI outcome. At 300 AI-resolved conversations a month the AI fees alone are roughly $300 on Gorgias or eDesk.
Is there an AI tool for returns?
ReturnGO runs a self-service returns portal with labels, exchanges and automatic refunds by rule, from $147 a month for 110 returns. Despite the name, its pages describe rules, not AI; the only AI item we found was a beta analytics feature on higher plans. It has 404 App Store reviews at 4.9.
Can AI fight chargebacks?
Chargeflow builds an evidence pack and submits it for you, and takes 25% of each chargeback it recovers, with no monthly fee. It submits without asking, though you choose which disputes it manages. It has 421 App Store reviews at 4.5 and stores data in the United States.
