Best AI tools for UK dental practices in 2026
Six AI tools for a UK dental practice, scored on the jobs each covers, set-up, approval, support, a price you can read and track record.

AI in dentistry has gone furthest in the surgery, where tools that turn dictation into clinical notes are now built into practice software. At the front desk it is patchier. There are tools that chase new treatment enquiries and one that answers the phone, but no supplier we read offers AI-drafted replies to patient reviews, and none mentions a data protection impact assessment, which a practice needs before any of them reads patient data.
We scored six tools on what their own pages say, read on 1 October 2026. Overlyft's done-for-you set-up comes first on our scoring: it is set up for you inside the systems you already use, it covers all six of these jobs in one installation, and a person approves what goes out. It is new and has no independent customer reviews yet, so weigh that against the tools with a track record.

1. Top pick: widest coverage of the written front-desk work
Overlyft: done-for-you set-up
Overlyft sets up a small team of AI staff inside the practice: a Call Handler answers the calls reception cannot take and books into the slots you have opened; an online Receptionist replies to website and email enquiries with the next step and the fee guide and books the consultation; a Recall Coordinator works the recall list at the interval the dentist set; a Treatment Follow-up role restates the plan, the price and the date the estimate holds until; a Reviews Clerk drafts replies that confirm nothing about the patient; a Notes Clerk turns the clinician's dictation into a draft note for the clinician to edit and sign. A GDC-registered professional or the practice manager reviews every patient-facing draft before it is sent. The service is new, with no independent reviews.
Pros
- Covers all six practice jobs, and drafts review replies, which no other supplier here offers
- Follows up existing patients' treatment plans, not only new leads
- A person approves every written patient-facing message, and the clinician signs every note
Cons
- New service: no independent customer reviews yet
- Phone answering runs on a voice service you pay for directly, as with the Claude plan
- The build is paid upfront, and you also pay Anthropic for a Claude plan

2. Best for answering the phone
ViveoAI
ViveoAI is an AI voice receptionist for dental practices, from a company in Coleraine. It answers calls at any hour, books, cancels and moves appointments in the practice system, takes deposits, triages emergencies and hands over to a person on request. It is the only tool here that covers the phone, and it publishes its price and its ICO registration number. The AI speaks to patients live, so there is no approval step, and we found no independent reviews. Ask which practice systems it writes to and how an emergency call is escalated.
Pros
- Answers and books by phone around the clock
- Price published, month to month, set-up included
- Hands over to a person on request
Cons
- Phone only
- No independent reviews found

3. Best practice system with AI notes built in
Dentally
Dentally is a cloud practice management system from Henry Schein One: diary, records, NHS claims, automated recalls and reminders, online booking, and AI that turns a dentist's dictation into structured notes in the practice's own templates. The notes are metered, at 45 transcriptions per surgery a month on Essentials and 90 on Pro, and the clinician edits them. It is the only UK dental system we found with a full price list in pounds. You cannot buy the AI notes alone; they come with the system. Its Capterra UK rating is 3.6 from 18 reviews.
Pros
- Recalls, reminders, online booking and AI notes in one system
- Full price list in pounds, by number of surgeries
- Notes are edited by the clinician before they are saved
Cons
- AI notes are capped per surgery each month
- Only available as part of a full system change
- A middling 3.6 from 18 Capterra UK reviews

4. Best for following up treatment enquiries
DenGro
DenGro is a CRM for treatment enquiries. It collects leads from website forms and Facebook and Instagram adverts, sends email and text follow-ups from dental templates and tracks each enquiry through to treatment started. The Pro plan adds an AI chatbot for the website. It is aimed at new enquiries for implants, orthodontics and cosmetic work, not at routine recalls or an existing patient's written plan. The follow-up messages are automated, with no approval step described. It says more than 4,000 people use it, and it holds 4.4 from nine reviews on Capterra UK.
Pros
- Tracks every enquiry from first contact to treatment started
- Clear monthly price including VAT, cancel any time
- Dental-specific message templates
Cons
- The AI part is a website chatbot on the higher plan
- Does not handle recalls, reviews or the phone
- Follow-ups go automatically; no approval step stated
| Price | £199 or £249 per practice a month including VAT, rolling 30 days, no set-up fee |
|---|---|
| Best for | Private practices that pay for leads and lose them between enquiry and consultation |
| Set-up | Mostly self-serve, with free live training |
| Jobs covered (1½ of 6) | 0.375 of 1.5 |
|---|---|
| Set up for you | 0.75 of 1.5 |

5. Best for clinical notes on any system
Kiroku
Kiroku writes dental notes. The dentist speaks or clicks through a template and the AI produces the structured note, which the dentist reviews before it goes into the practice system. It also audits notes, and the Pro plan adds letters and digital consent. Unlike Dentally's notes it works whatever system the practice runs. It is a London company. It does nothing for the front desk, and when we read its pricing page the monthly-billing side showed Australian dollar figures, so confirm the pound price before you subscribe.
Pros
- Notes by voice or click, reviewed by the dentist
- Works alongside the practice system you already have
- Low entry price per clinician
Cons
- Clinical notes only
- The pricing page showed the wrong currency on monthly billing
- No independent reviews collected
| Price | Essential £26.99 and Pro £89.99 per clinician a month as shown for annual billing; the monthly-billing price in pounds was not readable |
|---|---|
| Best for | Dentists who spend evenings finishing notes and are not changing practice software |
| Set-up | Self-serve, with a 14-day trial that takes card details |
| Jobs covered (1 of 6) | 0.25 of 1.5 |

6. Best shared inbox for new enquiries
Boxly
Boxly puts every new enquiry in one inbox, whether it came by email, text, WhatsApp, social media or a website form, labels and routes it with AI, and automates the first reply and the follow-up reminders for the team. Its AI Front Desk, which would hold the conversation itself across text channels, was still a waitlist with no price when we read the page, although trade press reported it as launched in October 2025. Treat it as an enquiry CRM today, with the AI receptionist as a promise.
Pros
- One inbox for every enquiry channel
- Published monthly prices including VAT, cancel any time
- AI labels and routes each lead
Cons
- The AI Front Desk was not open to buy when we read the page
- No recalls, review replies or phone
- No independent reviews collected
| Price | £100, £250 or £300 a month including VAT; the AI Front Desk has no price and is waitlist only |

How we ranked them
What counted: practice jobs covered out of six (phone answering, recalls and reminders, treatment plan follow-up, review replies, clinical notes, online enquiries and booking), up to 1.5 points: a quarter point each, an eighth for part of a job; set up for you inside the practice's existing tools (done for you 1.5, guided onboarding 0.75, self-serve or not stated 0), up to 1.5; a stated step where a person approves what the AI produces, within the sector's regulated limits, up to 0.5; ongoing support stated (monitoring, named support or a service level), up to 0.5; a UK price you can read without a sales call, up to 0.5; independent track record (reviews with a count), up to 0.5.
We read each product's own product and pricing pages on 1 October 2026 and recorded what each says it does. Where a page did not mention a job, the table says "not stated"; that is an absence of a statement, not proof the tool cannot do it.
A job counts as covered whether the product does it with AI or with ordinary automation, and the write-up says which. We have not run trials of these products. Health information is special category data: whichever tool you choose, the practice needs a data protection impact assessment and a written agreement with the supplier first.
Each product's score is the sum of the six marks shown under its entry, rounded to one decimal place, and every product is marked the same way from what its entry records. Jobs: a quarter point for each of the six jobs its pages say it does, with AI or with ordinary software, and an eighth for part of a job; a job that needs a separate product, or a feature marked coming soon, does not count. Set-up: 1.5 where the supplier sets it up for you, 0.75 where it offers onboarding, training or migration help, 0 where it is self-serve or does not say. Approval: 0.5 where the pages state a step where a person approves what the AI produces, 0 otherwise. Support: 0.5 where ongoing support such as monitoring, named support or a service level is stated. Price: 0.5 for a full price in pounds on its own pages; 0.25 for a starting price, part of a price, a price in another currency or one found only on a directory. Track record: 0.5 for independent reviews with a count; 0.25 for a rating shown only on the company's own site, or customer numbers or named customers the company states itself.
Track record counts for up to 0.5 because these reviews compare what each product does for a small firm, not how big the vendor is. A tool with thousands of reviews still has to cover the jobs to score well, and a new service with none loses that half point.
Overlyft's clinical notes are drafts for the clinician to edit and sign, and a GDC-registered professional or the practice manager reviews every patient-facing draft before it is sent.
Questions people ask
What is the best AI tool for a dental practice?
It depends on the job. On the pages we read on 1 October 2026: Dentally if you want AI notes inside a full practice system, Kiroku for AI notes on the system you already have, DenGro for following up treatment enquiries, and ViveoAI for answering the phone. No supplier we read sells AI-drafted replies to patient reviews.
How much does an AI receptionist for a dental practice cost?
ViveoAI publishes £349 per location a month with 500 minutes or £599 with 1,000, with extra minutes at 60p to 70p. Boxly's AI Front Desk had no price and was waitlist only. Other suppliers we found publish no figure.
How much does Dentally cost?
Read in a browser on 1 October 2026: for one surgery, £125, £220 or £320 a month before VAT on Starter, Essentials and Pro; for three surgeries, £265, £380 or £510; for eight, £575, £720 or £945. AI clinical notes are capped at 45 transcriptions per surgery a month on Essentials and 90 on Pro.
Do we need a DPIA before using AI with patient data?
Yes. Health data is special category data under UK GDPR, and a new technology processing it at scale calls for a data protection impact assessment before it starts, plus a written processor agreement. None of the supplier pages we read mentions a DPIA, so ask each one for the information you need to write yours.
