How much does it cost to sell on Amazon UK in 2026? The plan, the referral fee and a year's bill for a small shop
What Amazon UK charges a small shop in 2026: £25 a month or 75p an item, a referral fee of 5% to 15% by category and price, and one shop's bill for a year.

Selling on Amazon UK costs a small shop £25 a month before VAT on the Professional plan, or £0.75 for each item sold on the Individual plan, plus a referral fee on every sale that is 15% in most categories. Those are the figures on Amazon's own UK pricing page, read on 1 October 2026. For a shop that posts its own parcels and buys no advertising, those two are the bill.
The two plans
| Individual | Professional | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | £0.75 an item sold, before VAT | £25 a month, before VAT |
| Amazon says it fits | Fewer than 35 items a month | More than 35 items a month |
| Delivery charge | Amazon sets it and passes it on as a credit | You set your own, outside books, music, video and DVD |
At 33 items a month the Individual plan costs £24.75; at 34 it costs £25.50. So the Professional plan is the cheaper one from 34 items a month.
The referral fee
Amazon takes a percentage of what it calls the total sales price: "the total amount paid by the buyer, including the item price and any delivery or gift wrapping charges". Postage you charge the customer is inside the fee base. Most categories also carry a minimum of £0.25 an item.
| Category | Referral fee on 1 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Toys and Games, Kitchen, Pet Supplies, Sports and Outdoors, Office Products, "Everything else" | 15% |
| Handmade | 12% |
| Home Products | 8% for items priced at or up to £20; 15% above £20 |
| Clothing and Accessories | 5% at or up to £15; 10% between £15 and £20; 15% above £20 |
| Beauty, Health and Personal Care; Baby Products | 8% where the total price is up to £10; 15% above |
| Jewellery | 20% on the part of the total price up to £225; 5% on the rest |
| Books; Music, Video and DVD | 15%, with no minimum |
The page says a closing fee also applies to media such as books and DVDs. It does not give the amount.
Where a pound more leaves you less
Jewellery's two rates apply to slices of the price. The Home Products and Clothing bands are worded differently: the rate applies to the item, so crossing a line changes the fee on the whole price.
- A Home Products item at £20.00 pays 8%, which is £1.60, and leaves £18.40. At £21.00 it pays 15%, which is £3.15, and leaves £17.85. Every price from £20.01 to £21.64 leaves less than £20.00 does. £21.65 is the first that leaves more.
- A clothing item at £15.00 pays £0.75 and leaves £14.25. At 10% the first price that beats it is £15.84.
- A clothing item at £20.00 pays £2.00 and leaves £18.00. At 15% the first price that beats it is £21.18.
The page words these bands as "items priced" and others as "total price". It does not say whether a delivery charge counts towards the £15 and £20 lines; Amazon's revenue calculator will show the fee for a real listing.
A year for one shop
A shop that is not VAT registered sells 150 toys a month on the Professional plan, posts them itself, and charges £18 an item plus £3.50 delivery.
- The buyer pays £21.50. The referral fee at 15% is £3.225.
- 150 items a month is 1,800 a year. 1,800 × £3.225 is £5,805.
- The plan is 12 × £25, which is £300.
- The year costs £6,105 before VAT. Sales are 1,800 × £21.50, which is £38,700. Amazon's share is 15.8%.
On the Individual plan the same shop would pay 1,800 × £0.75, which is £1,350, in place of the £300.
VAT on the fees. Amazon shows both plan prices "excl. VAT". The two public pages we read do not say in terms whether VAT is added to the referral fee for a UK shop. If 20% is added to the whole bill, a shop that cannot reclaim VAT pays £7,326, which is 18.9% of its sales. Read your first fee invoice before you set prices. Amazon sales also count towards the VAT registration test with every other channel, as our VAT threshold guide shows.
Refunds
When you refund a buyer, Amazon gives back the referral fee less a refund administration fee, which is "the lesser of £5.00 or 20% of the applicable referral fee". On the £21.50 order that is 20% of £3.225, about 65p. If 90 of the 1,800 orders are refunded, a 5% rate we have assumed, Amazon keeps 90 × £0.645, which is £58.05.
If Amazon stores and posts the stock
Fulfilment by Amazon is charged for each unit by size and weight, on a rate card we did not read, so it is not priced here. The pricing page itself gives two figures:
- Storage for standard-size goods in most categories is £0.76 a cubic foot a month from January to September and £1.51 from October to December.
- A 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge has applied to fulfilment fees since 17 April 2026.
What changed for 2026
The banded rates are recent. The page dates the clothing bands from 15 December 2025, when the fee for items between £15 and £20 fell from 15% to 10%, and the Home Products band from 5 January 2026, when the fee up to £20 fell from 15% to 8%. A range priced before then may sit just above a line it could now sit under.
What to do with the figures
- Find your category in Amazon's schedule and note the rate and the band.
- Put the fee into the order sum with product cost, packaging and postage. Our product margin calculator takes VAT and returns out before it states a profit.
- Check any price within £2 above a band line against the price on the line.
- Run the same order through our Etsy and Shopify fee calculator to see the channels side by side.
- Price the parcel itself with our Royal Mail price guide.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice. The fees are as Amazon published them on 1 October 2026, and they change.

Where this comes from: sell.amazon.co.uk/pricing (selling plans, referral fee schedule, refund administration fee, FBA storage fees and 2026 fee updates) and sell.amazon.co.uk/learn/vat-resources, both read in a browser on 2026-10-01; GOV.UK "VAT rates" for the 20% standard rate, read 2026-10-01. Desk check only: we do not sell on Amazon. The shop in the worked sum and its 5% refund rate are invented.
